Re.web Information Architecture

re.web Information Architecture
As part of the re.web project, mStoner came up with an initial information architecture plan for the William and Mary web site. That initial plan now requires our review and confirmation.
What we need to decide:
- The site's overall navigation
- What information should be included on each of the "landing" pages
- Who should be the ultimate "owner" of each page
- Who should do the initial writing for each page - WM or mStoner.
Please edit these pages to show how you think the site should be set up, or use the "discussion" tabs on each page (see above) to discuss the topics. We need to start identifying the sticky topics and get to work hammering out any controversies. Thank you for your input!

William and Mary Home
Our home page. We are currently looking at three design options for this page.
Topic Navigation:
Audience Gateways:
Prospective Students? It's not clear to me how prospective students will get the pitch for why you'd want to attend W&M. Through Admissions? But the IA for Admissions currently doesn't specify that.
- I think it's generally assumed that the Topic Navigation is more for prospectives and the Audience Gateways are for the "captive audience" - those who already have a relationship with the school.
- Parents--Is there a consensus on including this audience? Beyond the parents' helicopter role, W&M has a Development interest with parents.
- I wonder if the site could be used to cultivate a community of parents? I'll bet there are parents who would love to communicate with other parents to compare notes and just continue to be a busybody in their kids' lives. Could be a tie in with development somehow.
- Faculty & Staff--Just a link to myWM?
- Alumni--The Alumni Association has an interest here. Also, a note that alumni should check their academic units for current news and to post their class notes (can also do through the Alum Assoc website).
- Friends & Neighbors--Is there a consensus on including this audience? I'm not sure what content we'd feature. A calendar of public events?
Task Navigation:
- Contact W&M - link to contact page or mailto?
- Maps & Directions
- W&M A-Z
- myWM - link to myWM
- Search - link to search page
Footer:
- Employment Opportunities - link to jobs@wm.edu
This usage of jobs@wm.edu gives the confusing impression that the link will launch an email address. Tripped me up recently when I was looking for the jobs listing.
- Privacy Policy - link to policy
