This is the wiki page for writing a short policy document on nutrient trading programs for water quality management. The document should include simple examples of buyers and sellers engaging in a trade and how a potential seller might calculate the number of sellable nutrient credits. These simple examples will help highlite the importance of science and policy considerations when designing and implementing a nutrient trading program. The TJ Public Policy Class- Environmental Policy- are the primary contributors to this site.

The goals of this project is to produce a document on nutrient trading programs describing the following:

  1. A conceptual permit trading model applied to a real-world situation and issues,
  2. The interplay between natural systems and environmental policy when implementing market based approaches for water quality management
  3. Existing nutrient trading programs and the academic literature on nutrient trading markets
  4. Case Study summaries
  5. The legal standing for a nutrient trading program from a local, state, and federal perspective
  6. The scientific analyses and socio-economic analyses needed to implement a nutrient trading program in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed
  7. The likely welfare impacts on stakeholders in a nutrient market
  8. Must see links
